In 1953 the Isetta car started its life in Italy with the ISO Company, but due to lack of success the Milan based manufacturer sold its rights to the little car to BMW. This brought a change in fortune, with it enjoying almost overnight success. So much so that the Isetta has been credited by many for saving BMW from closing down. It filled a gap in their range between the Motorcycles and the luxury 501 models. In 1955 incorporating the R-25 motorcycle engine the Isettas rights were sold by BMW to manufacturers around the world.
